Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Midland Business Alliance, and Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce Request Special Election for open 35th District Senate Seat

BAY CITY, MI – January 27, 2025

The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Midland Business Alliance and the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, formally requested Governor Gretchen Whitmer to call for a special election to fill the 35th District State Senate seat. This seat, vacated by Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet following her election to Congress, represents a diverse and thriving community of over 270,000 residents and businesses.

“Our community deserves strong representation to address the critical issues that impact our families, businesses, and future,” said Magen M. Samyn, President and CEO of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. “Calling a special election ensures the voices of the 35th District are heard without delay.”

The leadership of our chambers emphasizes the importance of ensuring that the voices of the 35th District are represented on policies that impact their livelihoods and the future of our region. We thank Governor Whitmer for her continued commitment to Michigan’s people and urge timely action to ensure the 35th District has a dedicated representative in the State Senate.
