Customer experience and a respect for team members are the basic philosophies that guided Hendrik Meijer more than 80 years ago when he opened the first Meijer store out of his barber shop in Greenville, Mich.

The Meijer family continued to follow those core values throughout the years as it evolved. Today, brothers and co-chairmen Hank Meijer and Doug Meijer lead the privately-held company that operates more than 240 stores and employs more than 70,000 team members in six states.

Meijer is more than just the pioneer of the “one-stop shopping” concept. Meijer is a family-owned company that understands how important it is to support the communities where its customers and team members work and live.

That commitment is fulfilled through excellent customer service, low prices, quality foods and broad selections of national and Meijer brand items. The retailer also supports a wide variety of non-profit organizations by donating more than 6 percent of its net profit to charity each year, and sponsoring hundreds of community events its customers hold dear.
