Second Saturday: Matt Syles of Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home “Funeral Ceremonies Through the Ages”.
The Bay County Historical Society 2024-25 Second Saturday season is well on it way with our special guest Mark Sayles of Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Homes. Join Mark Sayles of Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home as he shares his wealth of knowledge on evolving and historical funeral customs, ceremonies, old terms, funeral equipment, and customs. Let history and funeral service come together in what is certain to be an interesting time together. Mark Sayles is the co-owner with his wife Mary Ewald, of Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home, the oldest continually operating funeral home in Bay County. He has been a funeral director for 40 years and is passionate about Bay County history. He loves to share the history of funeral services and funeral ceremonies through the ages. This includes the unique history of the Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home's classic Queen Anne historic building, which retains its original fine historical details, craftsmanship, and woodwork. With a history spanning over 125 years, it is important to share not only the history of Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home, but also the history of the funeral home in Bay City, and how services, memorialization, funerals, and grieving practices have changed through the ages. Registration is required. RSVP: https://forms.gle/4wb8maym5zUnArEX8
