Saginaw Art Museum Announces Call for Art Critics for “Eye on Art” Art Review Program

Saginaw, Michigan – The Saginaw Art Museum’s Eye on Art program announces a call for art critics for the 2017-2018 event season. This is the 3rd year for the Eye on Art program, which is funded by the Jury Foundation. The Eye on Art program is a review of arts and cultural programming presented by the Saginaw Art Museum, Temple Theatre, Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra, Saginaw Choral Society, and Pit & Balcony Theatre. The program is a collaborative effort between the Township View, Saginaw Valley State University, Delta College and Central Michigan University, administered by the Saginaw Art Museum.

The goal of the Eye on Art program is to increase the awareness of and build audiences for local Saginaw art organizations, and to enhance the quality reputations of arts and culture in the community. The program functions by vetting two (or more) critics per participating venue to ensure that all forms of artistic expression are represented.

Past critics were selected from Saginaw Valley State University, Delta College and Central Michigan University by faculty for their knowledge of journalism and the respective subject matter, however, this year the Saginaw Art Museum is opening the program up to the public, including but not limited to students, recent graduates, artists, or anyone with proper qualifications and interest in the arts. Those selected will be mentored by the museum's Assistant Curator of Arts & Education, Sarah Trew, and Event Coordinator, Jennifer Gray, as well as Janet Martineau, former reviewer for the Saginaw News and longstanding supporter of the arts. Those selected to participate in the program will have their review published in a half page article in the Township View, and will receive a compensation of $50 per review published.

If interested in applying to the Eye on Art program, please contact Jennifer Gray at or 989.754.2491 x110 for more details.
